When Should You Book Your Newborn Photography Session?
If you're expecting a baby, chances are your to-do list is already a mile long. Between preparing the nursery, getting everything you need, and trying to remember all the little things before your baby arrives, scheduling newborn photos might not be at the top of your list.
But one question I hear often is, when should I actually book newborn pictures?
And the answer might surprise you!
The Best Time to Book Newborn Photos
I always recommend booking your newborn session while you're still pregnant, ideally during your second or early third trimester.
I know it seems early, especially when you don't even know exactly when your baby will arrive. But that's completely fine!
When you book with me, we use your due date as a placeholder. Once your baby arrives, we'll schedule your actual session date.
It's one less thing to worry about once you're home with your new baby.
When Is the Best Time to Take Newborn Pictures?
For my studio newborn sessions, I typically recommend photographing babies when they're around 14–20 days old.
During those first few weeks, babies are usually still pretty sleepy and naturally curl into those sweet little poses that everyone loves.
But here's something I always want parents to know: every baby is different.
Some babies sleep through almost their entire session, while others need extra snuggles, feedings, and breaks. And that's okay!
I always follow your baby's lead.
What If My Baby Is Already Born?
Please don't think you've missed your chance!
While those first few weeks are ideal for certain newborn poses, beautiful photographs can absolutely be taken with older newborns, too.
If your baby has already arrived and you're just now thinking about scheduling photos, reach out! We can talk about your baby's age and what kind of session would work best.
Do I Need to Bring Anything to My Newborn Session?
This is probably one of my favorite things about having a newborn studio.
You really don't need to bring much!
My Ridley Park studio is stocked with wraps, outfits, blankets, and props for your baby. Before your session, I'll send over a questionnaire so I can learn about the colors and styles you love.
I take care of all the little details so you don't have to.
And if you're including parents or siblings in your session, we'll go over what to wear ahead of time, too.
Newborn Photography in Delaware County, PA
My newborn photography studio is located in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, and welcomes families from Media, Springfield, Havertown, Newtown Square, Philadelphia, and surrounding areas.
After photographing newborns for more than 14 years, I can tell you that these first few weeks really do go by in a blur.
You spend so much time soaking up every little detail, and somehow, before you know it, they've already changed.
That's why I love what I do.
Not just because newborns are adorable (although they absolutely are!), but because I know how much these photographs will mean to you years from now.
