If you’re expecting a baby and starting to look for a newborn photographer near Media, PA, you probably have a few questions.

When do I book? What if the baby doesn’t sleep? Do I need to bring anything? What are we supposed to wear? And maybe the biggest one—how am I supposed to get myself, a newborn, and possibly a couple of older kids out of the house and ready for pictures?

I get it.

I’ve been photographing newborns for 14 years, and one of the biggest things I’ve learned is that newborn sessions need to feel easy for the parents.

My newborn studio is located in Ridley Park, just a short drive from Media, PA. Everything we need for your baby’s session is here and ready for you, so there really isn’t much you need to worry about.

When should I book my newborn session?

If you know you want newborn photos, I recommend reaching out while you’re still pregnant.

You don’t need to know exactly when your baby is going to arrive. We’ll use your due date to get you on my calendar, and once baby is actually here, we’ll figure out the session date.

Babies aren’t exactly known for sticking to schedules, so I plan for that.

And if your baby is already here and you haven’t booked anything yet, still reach out. If I have room on my calendar, I’m always happy to see what we can make work.

Where is your newborn studio?

My studio is located in Ridley Park, PA, inside my home but completely separate from my family’s living space.

It’s a private space dedicated entirely to photography and stocked with everything I use for my newborn sessions.

For families coming from Media and the surrounding Delaware County area, it’s an easy drive—and once you get here, you can pretty much hand me the baby and settle in.

Do I need to bring anything?

Not much!

I have a collection of wraps, headbands, buckets, props and other pieces here in the studio, so there is no need to go shopping for newborn photo outfits or bring a bag full of things from home.

Before your session, we’ll talk about what you like so I can plan everything out.

You have enough to pack in the diaper bag already.

What if my baby doesn’t sleep?

This is probably one of the things parents worry about most.

Please don’t.

Your baby doesn’t need to arrive sleeping, and there is no expectation that they’re going to sleep perfectly for the entire session.

We stop for feedings. We change diapers. We soothe. We take breaks.

Some babies sleep through almost everything. Some make me work for it a little more. 😂

Both are completely normal.

I’ve photographed a lot of babies over the last 14 years. Following their lead is part of the job.

Can we be in the pictures too?

Yes—and I really encourage it.

I know getting in front of a camera right after having a baby might not be at the top of your list. But years from now, I promise these won’t just be pictures for you.

They’ll be pictures for your baby too.

I love getting the tiny details and those sleepy newborn portraits, but I also love the images of baby in Mom’s arms, Dad holding this impossibly tiny little person, and older siblings loving on their new baby.

Depending on the session you choose, we can include parents and siblings too.

What should we wear?

Keep it simple.

Neutral colors and softer tones photograph beautifully in my studio and keep the focus on your family and your baby.

And you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. I’m happy to help you plan what everyone should wear before your session.

How long does a newborn session take?

It depends on the session you choose and, honestly, on your baby.

I don’t want parents watching the clock because baby needed another feeding or took a little longer to settle.

Newborn sessions are intentionally slower. There is time built in for all of those things.

That’s part of what makes photographing newborns so different from a regular family session.

Mostly, you don’t need to worry about your baby “cooperating”

Your newborn doesn’t need to perform for my camera.

Your older kids don’t need to be perfect.

And you definitely don’t need to walk into my studio knowing what to do.

That’s what I’m here for.

I’ll guide you through the session, take care of the posing and the little details, and give your family room to just be together.

Because those first few weeks are a blur—and the whole reason we’re doing this is so someday, you’ll be able to remember just how little they really were.
