Can You Still Take Newborn Photos After 2 Weeks Old?

One of the questions I get from parents is whether it’s too late for newborn photos once their baby is more than two weeks old.

The short answer is no.

While there is an ideal time for newborn photos, that doesn’t mean you missed your chance just because your baby is already here or a few weeks have gone by.

When is the best time for newborn photos?

I typically photograph newborns when they are around 14–20 days old.

At this age, babies are usually still pretty sleepy and tend to curl naturally into the poses you see throughout my newborn work. It also gives mom a little time to get home, settle in and recover before having to leave the house for photos.

But 14–20 days is a guideline, not a deadline.

Every baby is different. Some three-week-old babies sleep through almost their entire session, while some younger babies want absolutely nothing to do with sleeping that day.

And that’s okay.

What if my baby is already a few weeks old?

Still reach out.

I would much rather have you ask than assume you waited too long.

With an older newborn, I may adjust the session a little depending on the baby. They may be more awake, a little less curled up, or have their own opinion about certain poses. We just work with what they give us.

Some of my favorite newborn photos are the ones where babies are awake and looking right at the camera.

The goal isn’t to force every baby into the exact same poses. It’s to photograph your baby as they are at that stage.

What if I didn't book while I was pregnant?

This happens all the time.

Maybe newborn photos weren’t something you thought about during pregnancy. Maybe you wanted to wait until the baby arrived. Or maybe those first couple of weeks went by in a complete blur.

You can still contact me.

I schedule most newborn sessions before the baby arrives using the due date as a placeholder. Once baby is here, we choose the actual session date.

But when my schedule allows, I also take newborn sessions after babies have already been born.

What do I need to bring?

You really don't need to bring much.

My newborn studio is located in Ridley Park, PA and is stocked with the wraps, props and other things we'll use during your session.

Before your session, I'll have you fill out a questionnaire so I know what you like and can have everything planned before you arrive.

Then we follow baby's lead.

If we need to stop for a feeding, we stop. If baby needs a little extra time to settle, that's fine too.

After photographing newborns for more than a decade, I've learned that no two sessions are exactly the same.

Did you wait too long for newborn photos?

Probably not.

If your baby has already arrived and you're wondering if they're too old for a newborn session, send me their birth date.

I'll let you know what I have available and what type of session would work best for their age.

Those tiny details change so quickly—the little fingers, flaky skin, sleepy faces and the way they curl up when you hold them.

Even if you didn't get photos in the first two weeks, they're still worth documenting.
